Korea's Kim Yeon-Koung 'something special' - Guidetti

Dutch coach Guidetti was full of praise for Korea's Kim Yeon-Koung

Tokyo, Japan, May 15, 2016 - Dutch coach Giovanni Guidetti was in awe of the performance of Korean captain Kim Yeon-Koung but disappointed with his team’s serve reception, while Korea’s Lee Jungchul believed his team played the perfect match.

Korea coach Lee Jungchul - “Yesterday we could not play to our full potential. This could be due to pressure.”

“Today we played a perfect match, which raises expectations for the coming matches.”

Netherlands coach Giovanni Guidetti - “Kim Yeon-Koung is something special. I have never seen anything like that in my 20 years in volleyball.”

“We all know she is special, but that was really something.”

“I’m proud of my team, but I'm unhappy with the way we played. We made too many mistakes in reception. We did well in the first set, but they got seven aces.”

Korea captain Kim Yeon-Koung - “After yesterday we examined the game. It was not bad. We discussed it among ourselves. The players played as one today and it will have a big impact in the coming matches.”

“The Olympics are a dream stage. The highest stage for all players.”

Korea player Park Joeng-Ah  - “I’m happy we won. At first I was just thinking about trying to fulfill my role, but I was able to give quite a good performance. I have to thank the senior players for that.”

Netherlands captain Maret Balkestein-Grothues - “They played well. It was a tough game for us. They gave us a lot of serve pressure in the first set.”

“Our defence was not good in the first set, but if you don’t have this, well it is tough to win.”
